We’ve all rolled our eyes at someone approaching us about a party – let’s be real! I can’t tell you how many times I thought network marketing and direct sales was a scam, a waste of time and crazy – it almost seemed like a cult from the outside! All of that changed for me one day when I was smacked over the head with a giant lightbulb moment – this isn’t a scam, this isn’t crazy, this isn’t a cult – this is the stuff dreams are made of!
I have been in business running a very successful music school for over 12 years along with my husband. Our dreams have always been to grow our studio massively; to have a legacy to leave to our children. Seems great, huh? Parts of it are awesome – the students, their families, their growth and successes over the years, employing over 10 musicians as teachers. Everyone has become one big musical family, and I LOVE that. So why was I feeling after all of this that something big was missing? What’s missing? I wasn’t sure.
Then I was introduced to Tara. I had been using her stoneware, bakeware & cookware for almost 8 years and had a massive personal collection. Her products had started out as a healthier way to cook and serve my family, and quickly turned into an obsession and hobby. I had discovered her stoneware after recovering from Leukemia, and a bone marrow transplant when it dawned on me one day, WHY am I serving my family on Teflon, plastic and toxic materials? Stoneware is all natural, comes from the earth, and has been around for centuries. It just made sense.
I met Tara one day as part of a focus group for a new line she was launching, a network marketing business model, called Tara At Home. After contemplating the whole situation, dealing with some major doubts – “I don’t know enough people” “I’m not a social person”.”I’m not a salesperson” and “I don’t have time” – I found my belief in the products and in Tara herself was enough for me to say, “Why not me?” and signed up as one of the very first consultants with this ground floor company.
Right from the first day, Tara and the home office team challenged me to dream by asking what my “Why” was. Why was I doing this? At the time, I didn’t fully understand the power of this industry, how big I was being given permission to dream, and what I really was searching for in my life, so I answered “I’d like to bring my kids to Disney”.
I jumped right in, made a list of everyone I knew from the past 10 years, picked up the phone and started sharing how excited I was about this! Of course I heard No, You’re Crazy and just flat out got ignored by some. BUT – something amazing started to happen – people felt my excitement, and they started to say YES! Friends started to join my Team – just from my excitement! – I didn’t have a website, a catalog, a product – only my words. Words are powerful. In my first month I had a big team and 4 Gatherings booked.
Fast forward 1 year, and this business has transformed my life in so many ways. I was the 1st to promote to Manager, am a Founding Leader, am in the Founders Club and have consistently been Top in Sales & Sponsoring every month since launch. As a formally shy person, I now seek out conversations & friendships instead of hiding behind a desk or computer. I have real friends and an amazing support system of women I’ve met through Gatherings and events. I have extra income that has exceeded what I ever thought possible, and it grows month after month! I have developed SO much as a person; I can public speak now without my knees shaking, I am confident, I have become a leader. I show my children every day what is possible if you take charge of your life and that they can do or be anything they want. But most of all – I have learned how to dream big.
My “Why” isn’t really to go to Disney, but how could I have known that in the beginning. I want freedom. I want to choose when I work, how I work and do all of this on my schedule. I want to be there for my kids before they’re grown, to have the peace of mind to be able to engage with them and not worry about rushing to work. I want to have time to enjoy my family. As a survivor, I’ve seen a glimpse of what it would be like to not have what I do have in life. Now I want more – It’s a lifestyle, it’s a dream of living on a beautiful farm with chickens and alpaca. It’s having time to garden with my daughter. Sleep late and cuddle all weekend on the couch with the kids and dogs. That’s my vision.
So Why did I say yes to network marketing? Because not only have I given myself and my children the opportunity to dream big, but so many others around the country as well. This is the one level playing field in any business – it doesn’t matter where you come from, what you look like, who you know, how much money you have, education, experience – non of it matters. What matters is your dreams. If you can dream, you can succeed with network marketing – so why not you? You deserve a chance to live the life you were destined to.
